You can not say that Zaton crawls with rich cultural-entertaining life, but recently things are slowly changing. In the last several year notices the small movement from the life which Zaton has suffered, because of results of unpleasant happenings in the closer history, and the destiny of almost majority of the similar Dalmatian places.
Mainly in summer periods, when the majority of town-inhabitants and guests which find themselves in Zaton are in the evening promenade, occasionally are organized entertainment evenings (the parties). Such entertainments (“Srdelada”, Beer or Wine-party) usually are organized by local cafés on summer terraces, which are enriched by local vocal-instrumental performers, bands or harmony-singing groups. Parties have become almost traditional, and mainly are maintained on Fridays or on Saturdays. It’s not the kind of party which lasts till the early morning hours, but after the " regular " program which usually finishes half an hour after the midnight, almost always stays several people, first of all town-inhabitants with advanced vocal possibilities which take care that everything would not finish too fast. With them you can always have fun and sing together.
This kind of gathering is special here, because without any worry you can spend almost whole night out in the good company and enjoy harmony-singing. The entertaining program in Zaton wouldn’t be complete without Zaton evening which usually maintains by the end of July, in the beginning of August. Program of the evening which mainly starts around 18.00 o'clock and lasts approximately two hours; consist of participation of different teams and individual competitors. Competitors, mainly the younger generation, compete in terms of: carrying eggs in the spoon, scooter driving, jumping in the bag and riding on the donkey. Older competitors, in other words male and female teams, compete in pulling of rope. Awards, in no way symbolic, always are the part of program (the prosciutto, lamb...).
The most important manifestation in Zaton, which maintains in summer months, more correctly 16th of August, certainly is the procession and celebration of St. Rok. Procession begins in morning hours, when young girls and boys at the head of the procession are carrying the sculpture of St. Rok through alleys of Zaton. After the procession, maintains the holy mass, which every year is regularly lead by the bishop Ante Ivas. Celebration maintains in the evening hours, on which usually guest some of our show business stars. Regularly here are gathered up to a few thousands of souls which are enjoying in entertainment till the early morning hours.
